We make certain project goals are met or exceeded by working as a team with out Clients in identifying site constraints, limiting risks, and assisting the design in value engineering.
We aim to identify risks BEFORE the start of construction to ensure we hit our targeted schedule and budget.
Approach:
North Cascade Excavating is a fresh new earthworks and utility contractor with the experience and knowledge of a long-established company. Reason being is the principals and employees of NCE have been performing earthworks and utility installations since 2005 under it’s sister company Atlas Mechanical. NCE has grown from a branch of Atlas in 2005 to an earthworks contractor with capabilities of performing $200K to multi-million dollar projects.

OWNER/CFO
There is more to Sarah than just keeping the “budgets on track”. She’s the heart of the company with a wide range of abilities from uplifting employees to lighting fires under subcontractors. Sarah doesn’t shy away from taking risks, and does a great job of getting things done and keeping us ahead.
KARL HOMOLA
OWNER/OPERATIONS MANAGER
Karl’s knowledge expands far beyond civil construction. Two successful businesses provide testament of all that he can do. He maintains a tight ship by keeping both employees and clients coming back for more. He is also someone that is willing to jump in the field and get his hands dirty to ensure that our projects run smoothly and are completed.

INTEGRATOR
Lars has an extensive background in the trades industry. From management and operation, to implementing systems, Lars has worked to ensure that businesses have everything that they need to be successful. He joined our team in the spring of 2024, and has helped us develop new systems to improve our current process of workflow. We’re grateful to have him on our team.
CRAIG NYGAARD
GENERAL MANAGER
Craig joined NCE in April 2025, bringing over 31 years of experience in heavy civil construction. As our General Manager, he’s all about finding smarter, more efficient ways to get the job done and improve how we work every day. His knack for process improvement and hands-on leadership makes him a huge asset to the NCE crew.
When he’s not leading the team, you’ll find him outdoors—spending time with family, hunting, or fishing.
KERI RIVERS
CONTROLLER
Keri accepted the Controller position at NCE in 2024, bringing over two decades of experience in accounting and financial management within the excavation industry. Since beginning her career in 2001, she has held key roles including Office Manager, Payroll Manager, and Controller, developing deep expertise in both operations and financial oversight. At NCE, Keri’s sharp attention to detail, strong numerical skills, and customer service background help strengthen vendor and client relationships. She is known for her willingness to tackle challenges head-on and her dedication to the company’s success. Outside of work, Keri enjoys spending time with her six-year-old daughter, boyfriend, family, and friends. She loves to travel (ask her about her bucket list), explore new restaurants around the Pacific Northwest, and spend time near the water, especially at the beach!
TYLER TUMM
PROJECT MANAGER
Since joining NCE in 2021, Tyler has brought a decade of hands-on experience in civil construction, having worked in the industry since 2013. His career path reflects his versatility and dedication—progressing through roles as Foreman, Superintendent, Estimator, and Project Manager, with experience both in the field and in the office. Tyler’s well-rounded experience gives him a unique perspective on project execution and team coordination. Known for his strong communication, adaptability, problem-solving skills, and work ethic, Tyler is deeply committed to NCE’s success and the continued growth of the team. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, fishing, and helping friends and family with projects.

Maddie joined NCE in August 2024, bringing five years of prior experience as a Project Manager Assistant. Her strong background in project coordination and administrative support has made her a valuable asset to the team from day one.
Maddie is known for her self-discipline, reliability, and eagerness to learn new things—qualities that help keep projects organized and moving smoothly.
When she’s not working, you can find her spending her weekends with family and values the balance that time together brings.
LINDSEY De La GRANGE
ESTIMATOR
NCE has been fortunate to have Lindsey as a team member since 2024, bringing over 18 years of experience in civil construction. Her career has spanned a wide range of roles—from Flagger and Traffic Control Supervisor to Grade Checker, Lead, and Foreman—giving her a strong foundation in both fieldwork and leadership. At NCE, Lindsey began as a Laborer and Grade Checker before advancing to Foreman and now serves in the office as an Estimator and part of Central Dispatch. Known for her extensive field knowledge, strong social skills, and steady, solution-oriented approach, she brings structure and drive to every project.
Outside of work, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and being outdoors. She’s an avid gardener who loves canning and preserving her harvest—and even races lawnmowers for fun in the summer.
DUSTIN FERGUSON
GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT
With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Dustin Ferguson brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his role as General Superintendent at NCE. Since beginning his construction career in 1992, Dustin has built an extensive background in crew management, project coordination, and organizational efficiency.
Outside of work, Dustin enjoys spending time outdoors with his family—especially boating and camping during the summer months. His decades of experience and strong leadership make him an invaluable part of the NCE team.
CHASE LYNN
ESTIMATOR
Chase joined NCE in August 2025 and quickly became an integral part of the team. His eagerness to learn and adapt — supported by the experienced crew around him — has allowed him to rapidly build a solid reputation.
Throughout his time with NCE, he has taken on a variety of roles including laboring, operating, and estimating. Each position has deepened his understanding of the company’s operations and enhanced his overall perspective of project workflows and efficiency. Known for maintaining composure under pressure, Chase thrives in high-stakes situations — a quality that serves him well in estimating.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending weekends with family and friends, working on trucks, fishing, riding dirt bikes, and hiking.
